About Us
Giving Back is a project of the Community Services Department of the St. Thomas Seventh Day Adventist Church and ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency). Here's what some of our clients and volunteers have said about our program.
Cindy: Giving Back gives us a place where we are welcomed and not judged for our lifestyle. It is a warm, welcoming, safe place. Without this place it would be even harder being on the street.
Dillon: At first glance, Giving Back may not seem to strike anybody as a miracle or the most loud and alive social gathering space. But when I find myself with nowhere to go and I am starving from hunger or even just need to rest my eyes for a minute…(Giving Back’s) cozy, loving atmosphere is always here for me. From cookies to a delicious smoothie or even a cup of hot cocoa.. (I am provided with) a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental, positive and supportive environment…And trust me, when one is homeless, there is nothing more welcomed than a safe, warm environment to have access to. If it wasn’t for Giving Back I am not sure that I would even be alive right now…
Ava: Giving Back is a warm/cool, friendly place to drop in and socialize while enjoying a smoothie or hot chocolate. It is a place to access clothing etc. when in need and when available, find out about upcoming groups/classes and resources within the community. I really like how everyone is treated equally. Kindness fills the room always and suggestions are accepted and if possible fulfilled.
Amy: To experience Giving Back as a patron of its wonderful provision of home-cooked goodness, baked goodies, hot drinks (not to mention the wonderful, welcoming, friendly attitudes of the volunteers) is an amazing and rare and satisfying gift these day when the world is full of so much negativity and greed.
